When Spirit Knocks and You’re Not Sure How to Answer

THRESHOLD: Why I Created This Container (and How to Know If You’re Standing at One)

There’s a particular kind of restlessness that shows up when something deeper is calling. It’s hard to pinpoint at times.

Maybe you too have been feeling it for months, or even years. A pull toward something you can’t quite name. A sense that there’s more available to you than what you’ve been living. Maybe a knowing you are coming to a place in the road that will take you to unknown territory. It could come as a gentle whisper that keeps returning, even when life gets really loud and chaotic.

You want a deeper connection to spirit. You know it’s there and maybe there is what feels like fear present as well. And you’re not entirely sure where to begin.

I want you to know that I see you. And I want you to know this as well: you are on a threshold. And this threshold you’re standing on? It’s sacred ground.

The Threshold Trial I Didn’t See Coming

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what happens when we’re standing at the edge of something new, whether it’s spiritual, energetical, relational, or intellectual, and we’re not sure if we’re ready, or worthy, or equipped to step through.

Recently, I went through what some spiritual traditions would describe as the trial before the ascent, or simply put, a Threshold Trial.

For me, at times, it felt like my soul was being ripped apart. Far different from the dark night of the soul others speak about. This is what it looked like for me: a veil lifted and truth was exposed in my life. What I thought I knew and a huge part of my life that I held dear became unrecognizable. Many familiar reference points seemed to dissolve and leave me shaking my head asking, “What just happened? What does all this mean?”

I knew with all my being that I could not go back to what was. At the same time, I could not yet see what was ahead. And there was no shortcut through the middle. The only way out was for me to face it and keep moving. It was one of, if not the most difficult things I have ever experienced. Wow, face it, when all I wanted to do was run away!

A Threshold Trial happens when the only way forward (through the door) is truthful presence. Staying with what is, without trying to figure it out, fixing it, or escaping it. In essence, I had to let it move through me, greeting each wave of emotion, each revelation, each loss, without letting it define me. Like standing in a rainstorm and letting the water run over you without trying to hold it. I had to be present to it all, feel it fully, and then let it pass through without clinging and no, absolutely no, looking back.

And here’s what I want you to understand: this kind of trial does precede a level shift, but not in the flashy or performative way spiritual culture often talks about. There are no fireworks. No instant clarity. No public “arrival.”

Though I will say this: the clarity that has come feels different than anything before. My dreams have become vividly predictive. The guidance I receive is sharper, cleaner, more immediate. But these aren’t the gifts I went looking for. They’re the natural byproducts of standing fully in my own authority without anyone using my energy.

The Shift into Sovereignty

The shift however, is typically much quieter, and much more consequential.

It is the moment you stop giving your authority, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, or energetic, to anyone outside yourself, when you regain or uplevel your power. The important aspect of this response is that it is much more potent when there is no anger attached. You draw clear boundaries not out of rejection but out of maturity and out of wisdom.

This isn’t just ascension. It isn’t just transcendence. And it isn’t becoming ‘above’ anything. It’s something far more potent: sovereignty.

And sovereignty isn’t a destination. It’s a remembering, an unveiling. A return to the truth of who you’ve always been beneath the conditioning, the pleasing, the performing.

Once you feel it and draw that sovereign line in the sand, there is no going back. Not because you can’t, but because you finally remember who you are, and you can no longer un-know it.

What I learned in that raw, stripped-down place changed everything about how I now guide others. Because when you’ve walked through your own threshold trial, you stop teaching from theory. You teach from the experience that became wisdom.

You Don’t Need Permission, You Need Alignment

Here’s what I’ve learned after more than two decades of walking this path, both as a practitioner and as a teacher.

The spiritual journey doesn’t begin when you’re finally “ready.” It begins when you stop waiting for readiness and start listening. You don’t have to have any formal spiritual training to follow your intuition. Your best teacher isn’t a guru, a certification, or a lineage holder. It’s the silence you’ve been avoiding. The stillness that makes you uncomfortable. That’s where spirit speaks clearest, not in the noise, but in the spaciousness you create when you finally stop running.

Spirit doesn’t ask for your resume. It asks for your presence.

When you’re standing at a threshold, whether it’s beginning a practice, deepening your gifts, or stepping into service, the question isn’t whether you’re qualified. The question is whether you’re aligned. Whether the pull you feel is rooted in ego or in something truer. Whether you’re willing to show up, learn, stumble, and then keep going anyway.

You don’t need to have it all figured out. You need to be willing to begin.

What “Beginning” Actually Looks Like

If you’re reading this and thinking, “But I don’t even know what my first step is,” let me offer you this.

Beginning doesn’t mean diving into advanced practices or committing to years of training right out of the gate. It means creating space to listen. To feel. To notice what’s already present.

It might look like sitting in stillness for just five minutes and letting yourself be with whatever arises: the restlessness, the doubt, the longing. It could be asking an internal question and then waiting, without forcing an answer, to see what emerges in the quiet. You might start noticing where energy moves in your body when you think about your spiritual path, or reaching out to someone who holds space in the way you’re longing to be held.

Beginning is an act of trust. It’s saying, “I’m here. I’m listening. Show me.”

The Work of Noetic Alchemy

This is the heart of what I do through Noetic Alchemy. I guide people through the kind of deep transformational work that doesn’t bypass the messy human parts, and it doesn’t get stuck there either.

We blend spiritually guided energy practices with lived integration. We work with many modalities, with discernment, with the edges where the personal meets the mystical. We honor lineage and sovereignty. We practice remembrance, not as a concept, but as a lived return to what you’ve always known.

And we do it ethically. With care. With respect for the thresholds we cross and the responsibility that comes with them.

Because this work isn’t about transcending your humanity. It’s about becoming more of who you are: fully aligned, fully embodied, fully here.

If You’re Ready to Begin

If you’ve been waiting for a sign, let this be it.

You don’t need to have all the answers. You don’t need to be further along than you are. You just need to be willing to take the next step.

Spirit is already speaking. Your soul already knows. The question is whether you’re ready to listen.

If you are, I’m here. Let’s begin.

Thank you so much Sophia. I looked at the email briefly last night, but I had the chance to read it and posted article. I want to tell you that it was like mana from heaven this morning. You touched more than a nerve but the very essence of my being was energized to the utmost. I could go on non-stop but I will end it here because I’m at work. With time to reflect over the course of today I should respond on a more personal with some details of my spiritual background and where it has led me to thus far but more importantly, I’m looking for signs of what’s next on this fantastic journey. Thank you so much for sharing.
