WE ARE THANKFUL FOR YOU!
With the holidays right around the corner, we wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all of our Good Knight Child Empowerment Network supporters for all that you do. From helping with our cleanup days, to volunteering at camp, and for making monetary and material donations to support our non-profit, we couldn’t do it without you!
It has been a challenging year for so many in our community due to the pandemic, and we are truly grateful to have been able to continue our programming for children! After completing 5 weeks of our popular summer camp we realized that many of our students were going to face schooling online from home in the fall - without support or community. So we launched our own “pandemic pod” at the castle - we spruced up the trailer that houses our snow cone stand in the summer and created a brand new learning space!
And we want to build something more permanent!
This is where you come in! On December 1st, we’ll be asking for donations as part of the #GivingTuesday global campaign to support charities. In just a few days we’ll announce our campaign to everyone - but we wanted to give you a sneak peek to get you excited to help us spread the word! We are calling this year’s project/request:
BUILD A HOUSE, BUILD A MICROSCHOOL
Our goal is to raise $10,000 to cover the costs of purchasing a new structure for our new microschool:
the Legacy Learning Center!
This year's campaign will combine an opportunity to participate in a virtual gingerbread house competition along with the request for donations towards the purchase of a portable classroom space to upgrade the current Great Hall that kids use for summer camp. The Great Hall is now 10 years old and it's time for it to become a permanent year round space. You can help us by:
- making a suggested donation of $25
(click on the DONATE button, or send your check to: GKCEN, 11001 Rhode Island Avenue, Beltsville, MD, 20705)
- sharing our forthcoming #GivingTuesday email requests to 12 of your closest friends and family, asking for their support of $25 or more! (or whatever they can afford)
- by liking and sharing our daily posts on social media (Facebook & Instagram) on your feed,
- and asking your followers to contribute
- AND by participating in the gingerbread house baking competition (December 12, 2020 from 6 - 7:30pm via Zoom - more details to come)
Thank you for helping us to expand our ability to empower the children through the creation of a more permanent microschoolhouse for the Legacy Learning Center at the Good Knight Castle. Please reach out to let us know if you'd like to help!
